Network Engineer

Job Summary: The Network Engineer is principally responsible for the architecture and daily administration of Great Wolf's network environment (Cisco switching with Meraki access points and ASA firewalls). The successful candidate will ensure system availability, review logs and take corrective actions, perform regular monitoring and tuning, establish sizing and capacity planning practices, perform security and network hardening in accordance with company policies, and respond to any and all system issues. Additionally, as a member of the systems engineering team, they will work closely with project and application teams in architecting and building network deployments to support expanding and future business needs.
Role Expectations:
  • Perform daily administration of Great Wolf network and systems, including but not limited to performing regular monitoring and maintenance, patching and upgrades, performance monitoring and tuning, ensure availability requirements are well-tended, and perform regular configuration backups to meet RPO/RTO
    • Automating monitoring tasks using PRTG are required
  • Monitor incident queues and respond to issues raised by automated alerts support team members and end users
  • Participate in project tasks which require network builds, ensuring that the best design is selected for the intended purpose
  • Vendor management as required, serving as the single voice of Great Wolf and holding vendors accountable for delivery of requested services
  • Ensure availability commensurate with the criticality of deployed network devices through a variety of techniques in cooperation with application and database teams
  • Participate in the broader effort to consolidate network devices above-property and leverage cloud offerings where prudent
  • Champion CA and the notion of zero-downtime operations, inclusive of patching and upgrades
  • On-call response for critical incidents related to managed devices and systems
  • Other tasks as assigned by management


  • Bachelor's degree; STEM (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics) preferred
  • Ten years of experience managing Cisco network devices and servers in an enterprise setting
  • Cisco CCNA (switches and routers) required, CCNP preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Server deployments and VMWare virtualization
  • Strong knowledge of SAN technology and storage provisioning
  • A demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly growing environment
  • Experience in AWS, particularly in auto-scaling farms, is a strong plus
  • Experience with identity access management, is a strong plus
  • Experience with hospitality systems is a plus
  • Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift up to 20 lbs., sit and/or stand long periods.
